Computer Life Span?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, how long does the average American use their PC before discarding and replacing it entirely?

Disturbing answer: Just a relatively short time span of 30 months!

Our belief of all computer components being "obsolete" after a short period of functional use, created in part by marketing companies trying to sell us the next great life-changing gadget, have spurred us to treat our computers and their accessories as though they were made to be disposable. As a whole, American consumers generate more than five billion pounds of waste by dumping 82% of our computers into our landfills rather than recycling them. The waste generated by a connected society may be astounding but landfills are not the only area we see the environmental impact our computers have made. Our home and business energy usage has steadily increased as we become more and more attached to our computers and the internet.
